Deep, cold lakes with high oxygen levels. Prefer water temperatures of 40-52°F. Found in Finger Lakes, Lake George, and many Adirondack lakes.
Stay deep in summer (60-100 feet). Move to shallower water in spring and fall. Spawn in fall (late September-November) over rocky shoals.
Deeply forked tail. Light spots on dark background (opposite of brook trout). No vermiculations. Gray to greenish coloration. Can grow very large (20+ pounds).
