Early spring (March-April) spawning in shallow marshes. Summer in weed beds. Fall feeding actively. Winter catchable but slower. Best fishing spring and fall.
Dark green chain-like pattern on yellowish sides. Duck-bill shaped snout. Vertical dark bar under eye. Fully scaled cheeks and gill covers. Size 15-24 inches common, up to 30 inches.
