Winter Flounder is a right-eyed flatfish, completely different from Summer Flounder (Fluke). Smaller and less aggressive than Summer Flounder, Winter Flounder are bottom feeders known for delicate, sweet-tasting meat. Popular target during colder months.

Sandy and muddy bottoms in bays, harbors, and coastal waters. Depth 5-50 feet. Prefers cooler water than summer flounder.
Winter-spring (February-May) inshore and feeding (best fishing). Summer move to deeper, cooler water. Fall return inshore. Winter active in cold water.
Right-eyed flounder (both eyes on right side). Small mouth without prominent teeth. Reddish-brown to dark olive coloring. Typically smaller than Summer Flounder, averaging 1-3 pounds. Bottom feeder that eats worms, clams, and small crustaceans.
